What is Reflexology?

July 28th, 2014, posted in Reflexology

Reflexology is often thought of as a great foot massage but it is much more.  Reflexology is a science.  This science deals with the principle that reflexes are located on the hands and feet (and in some circles also face and ears) that relate to all organs, glands and the rest of the body.

There are many types of Reflexology, similar to different types of massage, chiropractic or acupuncture.  They may vary in technique but each therapy has an end result in mind.

The end result in Reflexology is reducing tension in the body.  As a practitioner, I feel that tension is the precursor to all disease.  If the body is relaxed,  circulation is improved.  Blood and lymph flows.  Oxygen, nourishment can move in to the tissues of the body while metabolic waste and toxins can move out.   Blockages and tension cause stagnation.  Stagnation is a negative state and can result in the breakdown of your good health.

I practice primarily The Ingham Method as taught to me by the International Institute of Reflexology.  In this method the only tools used are the hands, fingers and thumbs.  The unique techniques of thumb walking and finger walking are the basis of the Ingham Method.

There are many different Reflexology charts.  These are the Ingham hand and foot charts.
