My name is Ruth M. Schopper-Hughes.I am your personal therapist. I offer you professional, experienced and customized service in a private setting. My journey into wellness began following an auto accident at age 18. A hospital stay with traction, pain pills and a neck brace failed to relieve my pain. I reluctantly took my mothers advice and went to see her Chiropractor. On the first visit I had a massage. Right away I knew I was on my way back to health. The experience had a major impression on me. At age 25 I literally woke up one day and decided to become a massage therapist. I graduated from the American Institute of Massage Therapy www.aimtinc.com in 1986. My early career was spent as a chiropractic assistant, as well as a physical therapy assistant working in a hospital. This early work instilled in me a passion to ease the pain in others. I worked in the luxury massage field for 9 years at the Ritz Carlton Hotel www.ritzcarlton.com/lagunaniguel. This work taught me how to give the very best in customer care. At Safety Harbor Resort and Spa www.safetyharborspa.com I learned management skills and this position gave me exposure to the wonderful world of spa services. I took a hiatus to raise my children, then returned to work for Massage Envy www.massageenvy.com. Shortly thereafter, I opened Florida Reflexology and Spa Services.
My interest in reflexology began in massage school during a workshop. I took one look at a chart and was fascinated by the fact that a place on the hands or feet could be stimulated to effect somewhere else on the body. I received a professional reflexology session and I was hooked. I enjoyed the service and felt very relaxed. My neck pain subsided and I had a wonderful night’s sleep so I decided to study this amazing modality. In 1990 I took my first phase of training with The Foot Ladies of San Diego www.thefootladies.com and completed the second phase in 1991. I practiced and documented case studies throughout my career and in 2012 I achieved my goal of becoming certified by The International Institute of Reflexology www.reflexology-usa.net.
My spa treatment room is peaceful and exceptionally comfortable. My massage table is double padded, wheelchair accessible and I have the most updated face cradle. I use only Comphy sheets and the best quality professional lotions, essential oils and skin care products. I also have carefully chosen home care items and have them available for purchase. My office is located at 1130 Pinehurst Street, Suite E Dunedin, FL 34698 inside the Stillwater Wellness Center.
